As we approach the final long weekend of the summer, I can only ask one question: Where did the summer go? It feels just like yesterday when I was packing up and leaving Wolfville. Oh well, I’m sure that summer will grace us with it’s presence once again in about 8 months. Currently, I don’t have any plans for the long weekend. But then again, I never have any plans for normal weekends either, I just go with the flow.

I will be purchasing a desktop sometime next week. It will probably be this one or that one. Either one should be able to keep me company until next summer since I don’t see myself being outside very much during the cold winter days.

Last night, after vacuuming my room for the first time in 4 months, I decided to do some rearranging of my bedroom furniture. I wanted to get my bed as far away from my desk as possible since I don’t want to be kept awake by my computer’s fan. So now, my bed is near the balcony window while my desk is near my makeshift “door”. This has helped to maximize the area that I use by about 50% since before, I was only using half of my room because my desk and bed were right next to each other.

In other news, our kitchen sink is broken leaking.

Have you ever been woken up by a phone call at 11:30pm from someone on a ferris wheel? I have. I never realized how funny it was until this morning.

Who says that blogging isn’t fun? Since Sunday I have set up three other accounts on tvor.net for Andrew, Erin, and Ness. I’m sure they’ll have some good stuff to write about…well they had better since I’m giving up precious space to host them.

If anybody else wants an account, let me know. I can give you a couple megs, plenty for a plain text blog, and an email account.

It’s that time of the year again when the Back to School sales are in full swing and students are preparing for yet another year of their educational adventure. However, this is the first time in 16 years where I won’t be rushing out to get ready for school. In some cases I really miss not going back to school, especially university. Even though each year costs an arm and a leg to purchase textbooks and the ever-increasing Acadia tuition, it will be a sad day on September 3rd as I come to my cubicle here at work while a few thousand students down in the Valley return to classes and to see their old friends who they left back in April.

On the other hand, I’m glad to have some time off from studying and writing exams. I can also look forward to heading back to Acadia in 12 months, unlike those students who have graduated and moved away from the quaint, litte town that so many know as Wolfvegas.

So if you are returning to your respective school or university within the next week, I hope that you enjoy your studies and the friends that make it so memorable. You never really know how much you’ll miss it until it’s over. And trust me, the years go by fast.

It’s a nice, sunny Sunday afternoon here but I’m stuck in the office once again to put an end to my work report. I’ve been here for almost 2 hours but haven’t worked on it yet since I just set up Movable Type after being ridiculed for having a bland-looking site. I’m currently using the default layout and design but that will all change when I get some more free time, so look forward to some more orangy-goodness.

In other news, I took another trip downtown yesterday. I had to pickup my cell phone from Rogers so I decided that since I was already half way to the city, why not go all the way down. I got off at Yonge and Bloor, and strolled down Yonge St. I stopped by the Flow 93.5 3-on-3 basketball tournament for a bit and then took refuge from the heat in the Eaton Centre where there were some break dancers putting on a performance. I headed down to the SkyDome at around 3:00 and thought of taking in the Jay’s game. The scalpers had upper sky level tickets for $10 and one guy even tried to sell me a $120 ticket that was 3 rows away from the field. But feeling exhausted from walking all day, I went home and watched it on TV which was a good decision because the Jays lost.

As the end of summer nears, some of the students here at the Lab will be returning to school or heading off to other work within the next week. In our lunch group of Maritimers (NS: 6, NB: 1, PEI: 1), there are five of them leaving, with only Sean, Mike, and myself remaining. Last night we went downtown for supper to the Duke of Argyle, a Nova Scotia style restaurant. It was great food and fun times. Afterwards, we headed back to the apartment amidst the lightning flashing in the distance. The rain started to fall as we were about a 5 minute walk away. Seeing the inevitable downpour that would occur within minutes, we sprinted for home and made it just as the big drops of rain plummeted from the heavens. A few minutes later and we would have been drenched, but alas, we beat out the storm. And the best thing about storms in Toronto is that they look amazing from the 15th floor as the lightning streaks across the downtown skyline.

It’s not every day that you find something was named after you. I Googled my name a few weeks ago and found the Hudson-Dawe Dial that I worked on at the AITT during the last school year. I never thought it was ever going to be used.
