The Million Dollar Question
Why?
I’ve come to realize that this blog is more of a “personal daily journal” than an “interesting story/article repository”. While looking through many other blog sites, I’ve noticed a good mix between these two variants. I don’t think that I could write an “interesting story” blog since I enjoy posting everyday and wouldn’t have many fascinating stories to tell. And I’ve decided not to switch from my personal blog since I want to look back on this in a year from now and see that I was able to post something everyday (hopefully). I wrote in a personal journal for the first semester of second year at Acadia and I just found it on a floppy a couple of days ago. It’s great to read through the entries and reminisce over all of the stuff that happened. I wouldn’t have remembered most of it without having the journal. It’s amazing how reading about a normal day from two years ago can bring your right back to that very moment. Most of my entries from that journal were of the form “Studied for the discrete test today. Went to Joe’s with some friends and then to Tim’s until 2am.” Reading that brings me right back to those very moments and makes it so much easier for remembering those good times. So if you are looking for an interesting story every day, look elsewhere. If you want to read about my boring, but possibly sometime exciting life, keep reading, and I’ll keep posting everyday!
On that note, it was a normal Monday here, although the day seemed to go by really fast at work. I was just watching some of the Monday Night Football game which Green Bay is currently trouncing Chicago. It should be an awesome next 8 months here in the apartment with football, hockey, and the baseball playoffs all going on at the same time. Woohoo!
It was a great afternoon for baseball. Sean and I went down to see the Jays’ last game of the season vs the Cleveland Indians. We arrived at Union Station and had the traditional hot dog and pop meal while we walked to the ‘Dome. This would constitute as my breakfast/lunch. We bought a couple of $20 tickets from a scalper which ended up being front row in the outfield. We had a great view of Carlos Delgado’s grand slam in the bottom of the first. If he hit it about 20 feet higher and a bit further, we could have had a chance of catching it. There was a lady behind us who yelled “Three up, three down” at the beginning of every inning when Cleveland was up to bat. It was funny that you could pretty much time it exactly when she was going to say it.
The Jays ended up winning 6-2. We got free t-shirts. We are happy. I’m sure we’ll make it out to quite a few games next season too. But now, it’s time to watch some hockey that’ll be starting in a few weeks. Go Leafs!
We never made it to the baseball game today to see Roy Halladay post his 22nd victory of the season. It was raining around the time we would have left, so we’ll be going to tomorrow’s game instead. It’s Fan Appreciation Day, so the first 10,000 fans into SkyDome get free tshirts. Here’s hoping that we can get there early enough.
I spent the majority of the day researching and semi-installing Gentoo. However, with our slow internet connection, doing an emerge sync is almost impossible because I’m always timing out. I’ll attempt it again tonight. Overall, the first part of the installation wasn’t as difficult as I thought. I read through all of the installation document, making notes of commands that I would have to run.
While cleaning up my room this afternoon I came across some floppies which had alot of my old website projects and programs from high school and first year university. It’s funny looking back at the simple Java programs from Comp1113. Anyone remember that first assignment where we had to print our name inside of a box? All done in three println statements. My, how far we’ve come since first year.
While watching tv the other night, I noticed a movie preview that had a very familiar story line. I was almost sure that I had seen the movie before, but it was new. Then I realized that I had seen the movie before, atleast the older version of it. It was the re-make of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which will be coming out on October 17. I saw the original 1974 horror-flick last summer in the middle of the day while having a spaghetti lunch with friends back in Wolfville (the best day of my life, eh Andrew & Erin). Although I haven’t seen many horror movies, this was definetely the cheesiest and not scary at all. Having a girl running through the forest, screaming her lungs out for about 10 straight minutes was more funny than scary. Hopefully the re-make will be better even though I doubt I’ll pay money to watch it.
My plans for tomorrow include heading downtown to see the Blue Jays play their second last game of the season against the Cleveland Indians. It should be a good game seeing that Roy Halladay will be looking for his 22nd win of the season. He was thrown out of his last game for beaning a Tampa Bay Devil Rays batter. So far it’s just Sean and I heading down. Anybody else in the GTA want to join us? Let me know.
The internet went down this past weekend and has been pathetically slow ever since. We attempted a powercycle last night to see if that would fix our problem but to no avail, our surfing has now been reduced to a crawl. We will be complaining to Rogers and if they don’t ship up, we’ll be switching to Bell.
It hasn’t been a total loss, however, since the three of us aren’t stuck on our computers in our rooms for the entire night. Sean and I just watched Survivor and it seems to be an interesting show to keep us occupied for the next month. Go Drake! Looking ahead to the weekend, I actually have some plans for part of Saturday! I won’t mention them until tomorrow’s entry…it will give me something to post.
There are only 3 months plus 1 day left until Christmas and I’ve already purchased my plane ticket to fly back to Moncton. I started looking at tickets a couple of weeks ago and kept putting off buying one due to procrastination. While checking out CanJet and Air Canada flights today at work, I noticed the prices were starting to go up with the high demand for Christmas travel. I decided to go with CanJet since they had the lowest price and I would be wary travelling with Air Canada seeing how you never know what’s going on with that company. It will be strange having to fly home this Christmas since I usually get a drive back home with my dad or other Acadia friends who are from the Greater Moncton area.
This will be my 4th round-trip flight so far this year. Looking back on the summer, I flew during each of the four months. I went to Halifax/Wolfville in May, Calgary in late June, back to Toronto in early July, and to Moncton in mid-August. I’ll have to calculate the number of kilometres that I’ve flown, I’m sure it’s alot. I’m assuming that my trip at Christmas will be my last plane trip for awhile, unless something big comes up next year before I head back to the Maritimes for school.
With the recent comments about Newfies, it has made me somewhat homesick for my homeland, or atleast the place where I was born and haven’t visited in 5 years. Sean and I were even talking about the good ol’ Rock today at lunch. I’ve covered most of Canada’s provinces but none of them can compare to Newfoundland. It’s got that rugged yet welcoming feel to it. Maybe it’s in the scenery with the mountains and ocean, or maybe it’s the awesome Newfie accent which makes it the best province.
After I graduate in a couple of years I would love to take a trip over to the island for a few weeks. It would be great just to get an SUV or car and drive all over the Rock. Some stops would include Stephenville, Twillingate, and of course Little Bay Islands.
