Got Elf?

Posted by tvor @ 12:49 pm

I went to see Elf yesterday with Sean down at the cinema. It was great to start getting into the Christmas spirit with a good movie. On Friday I bought the Christmas with Johnny Cash album so I’m all set. My iTunes Christmas playlist currently contains 30 songs ranging from the ever-so-awesome Boney M to a couple country tunes. I’ve also downloaded some classic Christmas cartoons such as Frosty the Snowman and the Grinch which I’ll have to watch soon.

In regards of Christmas shopping, I’ve only bought 1 gift so far, for the Knocks. I’ll probably head out next weekend to do some more shopping or see if I can do some shopping when I arrive back in Moncton so that I won’t have to haul all of the presents back east in my suitcase.

In other news, I’m going to try and get my hair cut today. I’ve been putting it off for the past couple weeks and it’s starting to get very shaggy.

Pac Man Challenge!

Posted by tvor @ 10:45 pm

I think that I’ve secured a good score on the Pac Man game on the ACF website at 80,680. This is a challenge to see if anyone can beat it! C’mon, show your stuff!

Heritage Classic

Posted by tvor @ 10:42 pm

We just finished watching the Heritage Classic game between the Oilers and Canadiens which was followed by the first official outdoor NHL game with the same teams. Nothing better than seeing the line of Kurri and Gretzky being backed up by Fuhr.

Bowling Champions!

Posted by tvor @ 10:29 pm

It was my team’s Fun Day at work this afternoon. There were about 25 or so who took part in the bowling tournament with a pizza party following. My team ended up winning for the highest average score of 103.5 points. I bowled 135 and 130 respectively which wasn’t too bad seeing I haven’t bowled in a couple years. We went to Club 300 just down the road from the lab. From the outside of the building I was expecting a small 10 lane, small ball bowling alley. It turns out that it’s an upstairs, 60 lane, big ball, cosmic bowling alley. Definetely the biggest alley I’ve been in. Bowling alley, that is. So, the day went pretty fast due to the bowling and pizza.

Tonight we watched Survivor which is a regular show here on Thursday nights. I’m not sure if I’ll be up for watching it next week since Rupert was voted out. If you don’t watch the show, Rupert is the ultimate survivor. He fishes, builds huts, feeds everyone, looks like a pirate, and is an all-around awesome competitor. He deserved to win but I can see how the others wanted him out since nobody would stand a chance against him in the finals. Oh well.

Sketchy Gas Story

Posted by tvor @ 6:19 pm

I just got back from McDonald’s and the ATM at the bank across the street. As I was keying in my pin number, another guy came into the bank and said “Hey, you are the only white guy I’ve seen in a long time. When you are done, can you help with me something?” I finished my banking and headed outside where he was waiting near the door. He introduced himself as Paul, said he lost his bank card and money, and his van was completely out of gas.

I enjoy helping people out but this seemed like a shady story. First off, he somehow lost his bank card and money but still had a wallet. How does that happen? He even showed me a picture of his three children which was a black and white photocopy that somewhat resembled children, I didn’t get a very good look. Also saying that I was “the only white person” he’s seen in a long time was rather sketchy. Mind you, I live in a community where 99% of the population is not caucasian. But why wouldn’t he ask for help from someone else? Finally, while he talked I could smell his alcohol-tainted breath. Putting all of these things together, I told him that I was “really tight on cash” and couldn’t spare any. This, of course, was my escape plan. I walked away and he jumped in his van and drove off. I guess he would rather run out of gas instead of asking anybody else for money.

The Grey Cup has just got underway so I’ll be spending the evening in front of the tv. While watching the rosters being introduced I found out that Bruce Beaton of the Eskimos is a former Acadia Axeman, plus he lives in Kentville during the off-season. Go Eskimos!

Hey, I Could Be A Doctor

Posted by tvor @ 5:59 pm

In the midst of the day whilst working from home, I lost the network connection and couldn’t reconnect to do any other work. So, I headed down to the Walk-In clinic down the street to get a prescription for some ezcema cream. I was planning on going down after finishing my work but since I couldn’t do any work I decided to head down early.

I must say, the clinic needs a better queue system for how patients see the doctor. I got there just after 2:00 and the receptionist said there would be an hour wait. Looking at the 6 or 7 people sitting down, I thought that to be a reasonable estimate. The first hour went by and I noticed that there was only one guy left who was there before me. “Great”, I thought, this shouldn’t take too long. Wrongo! It turns out that other patients came who had appointments and they were ushered in before me. It was kinda funny to see my “record” being stranded at the back of the little rack thing. Finally, after 2 1/2 hours, I got to see the doc! I went into the office and told him my condition and what I needed. Then he proceeded to write me a prescription and I was out of there in 3 minutes. So, after the extreme long wait, I was able to diagnose myself plus tell him what cream I needed. If only I could write prescriptions, I could be a doctor!

Oh yeah, I received my co-op work report back from Acadia today. This was marked alot faster than last year’s one. I was surprised to see that I scored 5/5 on all sections and an overall mark of Excellent. But then I saw why it was done so fast and the reason for the mark. Graded by: A. Trudel. Need I say more?

Get Comics!

Posted by tvor @ 9:39 pm

I spend a good 10 minutes of every morning looking through my favorite comics at comics.com. I just wrote a php script that is going to save me alot of time. I call it Get Comics! which currently has a list of 28 daily comics that you can display on 1 webpage. This is only version 1.0 since I will be adding some other features such as showing archived strips and also adding more comics to the list. Enjoy!
