so you liked the new matrix? I heard the reviews were crap. the second one was pretty lame, you gotta see that one and compare then let us know what you thought of the third

Dude, that's an easy one to fix! Just unplug all the fans!

Then, when you wake up in the morning, all you have to do is slap a couple pieces of bread on the processor, and voila! instant toast!

Actually, this page is more 'dynamic' than you may think. The updated today, comment wars, and last comment posted features are using php scripts which query a MySQL db. So if you post a comment, it might show that you posted it 5 seconds ago, then refresh the page and watch it increment.

I'm having a problem with the Updated Today feature though since I don't want to have it parse all of your index.rdf files everytime the page loads. If a site is down, it can't find the file and takes about a minute for it to report an error. I've tried using exec() and system() functions to ping a site beforehand but apparently my host doesn't allow me to do that. So, I wrote a small java program which creates a URLConnection to my php script every 30 minutes. This runs off of my own machine. The php script parses all of the index.rdf files and upon completion outputs the results to a file which I then dump onto the 'Friendly Blogs' section.

So, in conclusion, the reason why a * didn't appear for you, Peter, was because I had my computer shutdown last night, the fan keeps me awake. So I disabled the update feature for that. I just need to find a way around it or else endanger my sleep with the fan going all night. :)

Also, I updated today, and I just forced your page to rebuild, and it didn't give me a '*'. What gives?

The problem with the feature is that your main page is a static HTML page, so the 'updated today' feature will only update when your site updates (you post an entry, or someone posts a comment).
