Need a Mug Shot

Posted by tvor @ 8:40 am

I received an email from ClickHost, my web hosting company, and they are having a contest where you get to send in a picture of yourself along with the last part of the phrase “ClickHOST.net is better than…”. The top 12 entries will have their pictures shown randomly on the main homepage and receive 2 free months of hosting (grand total of $12). Plus, the top 2 entries get a free tshirt or mug.

As I am lacking in a digital camera, atleast for the next month and a half, I have resorted to scouring through all of the digital pictures that I have of myself. All three of them. With my lack of options I might just take some snapshots with my webcam, although the quality is pretty poor. Then I’ll have to make up something humourous for the quote. Maybe “ClickHOST.net is better than rotting meat.” Or perhaps “ClickHOST.net is better than an infinite number of monkeys typing on an infinite number of typewriters.” Hmmm, we’ll see about that!

New Design & Gary!

Posted by tvor @ 9:21 pm

I decided that it was time for a change of design. I’ve had the orange layout for a couple of months and the bright colours were starting to hurt my eyes. So I’m going for a more darker, relaxing colour. Hope you enjoy!

Also, I promised to put a link up here to the “Gary” trailer starring none other than Erin, Andrew, and yours truly. One evening last summer the three of us decided to make a movie. We gathered up a few supplies and travelled all over Wolfville filming about an hour of footage. The full-length video has fights, Billy Bob’s, fireworks, ninjas, sparkler duels, and tons of other ‘fun’ stuff. Andrew is currently remastering the sound and video which will soon be released as a special director’s cut widescreen DVD. Until then, download the full trailer here! (Warning: 33MB)

If you were wondering, the ninja picture in the corner is a partial screenshot from “Gary”.

Update: Here’s another short clip from the remastered version of “Gary”.

Enter The Matrix

Posted by tvor @ 1:29 am

Just got back from watching The Matrix Revolutions down at Rainbow Cinemas with Sean and Luke. I still haven’t seen The Matrix Reloaded so I was going on my knowledge from the first Matrix film. It was a pretty good movie with tons of action with a few cheesy parts thrown in:

Neo: But you can’t die
(pause)
Trinity: Yes, I can.

Tomorrow I continue the quest to find a nice, well priced winter jacket. I’m sure there’s atleast one of them in Toronto. We’ll see….

Get Fuzzy

Posted by tvor @ 9:00 am

In my daily, early morning comic reading I usually read the regulars like Dilbert and B.C., but in the past couple weeks I found another hilarious comic called Get Fuzzy. The characters remind me somewhat of Undergrads. Can you guess which ones? Anyways, the reason I’m posting about it is because they mention travelling to Nova Scotia in today’s comic. Of course they’ve included the ever-so American stereotypes of Canada too. Enjoy!

Daddy Letterman

Posted by tvor @ 7:16 pm

While browsing through CNN after work I came upon a huge discovery. David Letterman is going to be a father!! Apparently there have been news articles out for the past couple months about this but I just stumbled upon it today. I didn’t even know that he had a girlfriend. And here I was thinking he was just a single guy.

I haven’t watched the Late Show faithfully in about 3 years but it’s definetely my favorite late night talk show. Maybe I should start watching it again seeing that it’s on an hour earlier hear in the Eastern timezone.

Configuring KDE

Posted by tvor @ 7:55 pm

I haven’t touched Gentoo since I emerged KDE and X11 about 3 weeks ago, so I’ve decided to take another stab at it. I ran xf86config and applied the appropriate configurations, but now I’m stuck. I’ve tried running X but it hangs while running and startkde complains of not being able to connect to the X server. So, I’m calling upon my other Gentoo users out there in the audience. How do I fix this problem and start kde? And Peter, don’t tell me the answer is to try emerge gnome. ;)

Tis The Season

Posted by tvor @ 4:56 pm

I just returned from a good 6km walk from the Fairview Mall down at Don Mills. I headed down, by bus, just before lunch on the hunt for a winter jacket.

Even though Halloween has been over for about 16 hours, the Christmas decorations are on display, holiday music is blaring, and everyone is off to the races to start their shopping for the festive season. I don’t usually enjoy buying presents for my friends since I’m always scared that they will hate whatever I buy them. That’s why I usually just write a cheque. However, today I bought a Christmas present for the wonderful couple of Erin and Matt. The instant I saw it, I knew they would love it, without the shadow of a doubt. I’ve never been this confident with a gift purchase before. I came up empty on the winter jacket problem, though. Every jacket I wanted was too expensive for my budget and all of the cheaper jackets had un-removable hoods which I don’t tend to enjoy. So, I will attempt to conquer the mall again next week or head downtown to the Eaton Centre and find a jacket.

During the long walk home, I witnessed a couple funny situations. As I was approaching an automatic car wash, I noticed about six older men, in their mid to late 60’s, sitting at the exit. They were the kind of guys that you would see in Tim Horton’s drinking coffee all day, or sitting on the benches in the mall for hours on end. As the van emerged from the car wash, each of the guys stood up, as if on cue, and proceeded to the van with their rags to hand dry the vehicle. As I walked by I couldn’t help but laughing at this scene. I’m not sure if they are “official” employees of the car wash or if they’ve found an easy job collecting loose change from drivers for their services. If they are indeed just collecting change, it’s kind of like the next stage after being a squeegee kid and working at the red lights downtown. This is the more relaxing, less stressful job that the kids look forward to.
