Tickets, Convenience Charges, and Processing Fees

Posted by tvor @ 11:20 pm

In the past week I’ve spent a good $120 on some upcoming sporting events in the Toronto area.

Earlier this week I bought a bunch of tickets to the Blue Jays value games which occur on 4 home games during April and May. It will basically be just Sean and I going to all the games with Mike joining us for one. You can’t go wrong with a baseball game for only $2.

Tonight while scouring the internet for Toronto Maple Leaf tickets, I was surprised to see that Ticketmaster still had several tickets that hadn’t been snatched up yet. Seeing as this may be one of the last chances I may ever have to see a Leafs game, I bought tickets to a couple games. I’ll be seeing them battle the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 11 and the classic matchup with the Boston Bruins on March 16. Should be fun, as long as I don’t bump my head on the roof of the Air Canada Centre since I’ll pretty much be sitting on the rafters.

Winter Balcony Pictures

Posted by tvor @ 4:34 pm

I ventured onto our balcony this afternoon for the first time since early October. For those interested, I took a few pictures which can be found in the apartment gallery.

Canadian International Auto Show

Posted by tvor @ 6:48 pm

I went to the Canadian International Auto Show this morning. It was huge! I arrived shortly after 11am and spent the next 5 hours walking around seeing all of the exhibits. I was feeling exhausted at around 4:00 so I decided to head home, after a short trip to Quizno’s, even though there were a few things I hadn’t seen at the show.

Some of the highlights included the Dodge Viper GTS/R, Subaru Impreza WRX Sti, and the Saleen S7. When I first saw the gull-wing doors of the Saleen from far away, I got my hopes up that it was a DeLorean. But it was much nicer!

On a realistic note, the Dodge SRT-4 really caught my eye. It has a nice style and reasonable price at $28,000. Who knows, maybe in a few years I’ll be able to afford one of them. Or I could save up my money and buy the Saleen S7 for only $530,000.

There are 114 pictures from the show in my photo gallery. Check ‘em out.

Working Late

Posted by tvor @ 8:24 pm

This was a long week. I stayed at work til 7:00 these past couple nights to get stuff done before the weekend. Nothing says ‘coolness’ like working until 7:00pm on a Friday night! In other news, I surpassed the 100km mark today at the gym on the cross trainer. Doing some math, 100km/25 days at the gym = 4 km/day. Not too bad, but I’ll be trying to increase that in the upcoming months.

Surprisingly, I have plans for tomorrow. I’m heading downtown to the Canadian International Car Show at the SkyDome and Metro Toronto Convention Centre. It should be a really great time to see some new prototypes and other awesome cars. I’ll post my pictures of the show tomorrow night.

That’s about it, now it’s time for my 8:30pm Friday night supper! Fusilli!

Update: I forgot to mention that Sean and I signed a lease for an apartment in Skyway at Wolfville Courts for the 2004-2005 school year. I can’t wait to get back!!

Braces Controversy

Posted by tvor @ 9:19 am

Attention coders!

In the past few days there has been much controversy stirring up here on Bamburgh Circle regarding the proper use of braces while programming.

Ever since I can remember, whenever I use braces, I always leave the opening brace on the same line:

for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
     //do something
}

However, some people insist on bringing the opening brace down to it’s own line:

for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++)
{
     //do something
}

So, my question to you other programmers who read this: Which style do you prefer?

Personally, I find leaving the opening brace on the same line makes the code look nicer. The main opposing argument is that bringing the brace to it’s own line allows the programmer to see what’s inclosed in the given block. But I figure that if you are using a good enough IDE, this shouldn’t cause too much of a problem.

Oh yeah, Happy Friday the 13th!

Wanted: Summer

Posted by tvor @ 7:08 pm

Not much has happened since the last post but I just felt like blogging.

It looks like we are going to be stuck here on Bamburgh Circle for the remaining 7 months minus 7 days that we have left. Our lease doesn’t end until the end of June so it would be too much hassle to find another apartment and move our stuff for only a couple months. Maybe the cockroaches will go away when summer arrives. That would be nice.

Speaking about summer, I’m looking forward to the upcoming baseball season with the Blue Jays. I went to 4 games last summer and will be looking to increase that number this year. I was just looking at their ticket prices and the different deals they offer. They have 5, 7, 20, and 40 game flex packs, plus full season tickets. I wouldn’t mind going to 20 games, at a cost of $171 for SkyDeck seats (aka sitting on the SkyDome’s roof). But then I found a better offer. I could get a Toronto Star Season Pass and see all home games from the SkyDeck for only $81. That’s only $1 per game! The only catch I can see is that they don’t guarantee your seat within 45 minutes of the game starting. That’s probably in case they sell out, which has a very high chance of not happening. I doubt whether I would go to every game but it would be nice to have the option of going down some night after work or on the weekend to see a Jay’s game. Seeing as how scalper’s tickets for the same seats go for $10, I’d just have to watch about 9 games to get my money’s worth. I’m still contemplating it but will probably give in and buy a pass.

Anyways, that’s all for now.

More Apartment Woes, Take 2

Posted by tvor @ 9:49 pm

I was just about to save my blog entry about how the power in this apartment goes out so often. And guess what? Before I could save the post, the power went out! I couldn’t help but laugh. And guess what? Sean was blogging about the same thing! It was hilarious. So, here’s my post from before, atleast what I can remember of it:

I was awoken last night at 12:45am by the fire alarm. Of course, it was another false alarm due to a faulty sprinkler system in the basement of the apartment. To play it safe, Sean and I headed downstairs and across to McDonald’s, although it was closed. We came back to the apartment and amazingly the alarm was off! I didn’t get to sleep until close to 2:00am so that ruled out going to the gym this morning. I ended up sleeping in til 8:30 and then headed into work. I love IBM flex hours!

To continue with the apartment woes, the power was off during the day again. It wasn’t too bad since we are at work. If there is ever a week where the power stays on continuously, it will be a miracle! Also, I don’t think they actually sprayed for cockroaches because they are still out in full force.

Last night during the fire alarm there was some talk about moving out of this hole-in-the-wall when our lease finishes at the end of April. And during the short power outage that we just experienced, all three of us roommates agreed that it would be a good idea. Maybe we could get a place in a nice condo or townhouse somewhere. That would be the life!
