May Long Weekend Update

Posted by tvor @ 3:16 pm

Not much happening here during the long weekend. It’s cloudy and rainy outside so I’ve stayed inside.

Last week, Tim and I headed down to the last $2 night at the SkyDome to see the Blue Jays beat the Minnesota Twins 5-3.

I have also been doing alot of flying with Atlantic Skies on Flight Simulator 2004. Currently having 63 hours registered has given me the title of First Officer. Another 60 hours until I get to be Captain.

If anybody else is interested in aviation or just seeing some crazy pictures, check out these jets landing at the Princess Juliana airport on St. Maarten.

BBQing and Return of the Gallery

Posted by tvor @ 8:31 pm

The past week here in Toronto has been very warm, with a couple days reaching into the high 20’s. To recognize the start of summer, Sean and I headed to the Bamburgh Market after work on Thursday and picked up a small BBQ along with some briquettes and lighter fluid. We used it a couple times this past weekend and it was nice to be able to use our balcony now that the winter has come and gone.

The photo gallery has once again returned. There are pictures of the trip to Niagra Falls from two weeks ago, the weekend BBQs, and the screen shots from Flight Simulator 2004.

The Who Reads My N/A? is back too!

Computer Science Class of 2004

Posted by tvor @ 1:06 pm

The Jodrey School of Computer Science has posted some pictures of the graduates from this past weekend’s convocation.

It’s kind of funny that these are the guys (and couple girls) that I started Acadia with almost 4 years ago. They are now going out into the real world while I am on the last 3 1/2 months of my semi-real/student life here in Toronto. Even though my class, which includes many good friends, has graduated this year, I’m still looking forward to my graduation next year. Taking this internship had me worried that I wouldn’t know any other graduates next year, but that’s not the case. There will be Sean, Julie, Tim, Hannah, Mike, and others who can share in the move from student life to the real world.

Seinfeld in Toronto Review

Posted by tvor @ 1:05 am

An awesome night was had at Massey Hall where Jerry Seinfeld played to a packed house of around 2,700.

I headed downtown shortly after 5:00 and had the usual supper at Quizno’s Subs before heading over to Massey Hall at 6:30. My seat was in the 5 rows up in the left gallery with a decent view of the stage. The show was about 10 minutes late starting and Mario Joyner was the opening act who did a 15 minute routine before Seinfeld took the stage for his hour-long act.

To put it in true Seinfeld terms, Jerry’s routine was about “nothing”. His material covered jokes about the weather, cell phones, married life, and old people. It was definetely classic Seinfeld style. He finished off the evening with an encore of taking questions from the audience. This included him reminiscing about his favorite Seinfeld episodes and performing a “Hello, Newman” which was hilarious.

Here are some of the funniest jokes of the night, atleast the jokes that I can remember (may not be word for word but you get the idea):

“Men want the same things in a relationship as they want in their underwear. A little bit of support and a little bit of freedom.” - Seinfeld

“People often ask me ‘Do you think the weather is going to stay like this?’, and I always reply ‘Yes, I’m sure it will change. We are, after all, living on earth. The weather always changes.’” - Seinfeld

“Did you ever realize how the meaning of ’suck’ and ‘great’ are so close to each other? You have an ice cream which falls off the cone and onto the floor. This is definetely a ’suck’ situation. But what do you say? ‘Oh, great!’” - Seinfeld

“Everybody’s life sucks. Of course, my life doesn’t suck as much as your lives do.” - Seinfeld

“People say that life is too short. I’d say that life is too long. We can accomplish everything we want in life by the time we are 15. But instead we tend to prolong it and fill up void moments in our life with mundane activities. We have people just sitting on cruise ships filling out crosswords.” - Seinfeld

“People say that rapper 50 Cent is the luckiest man alive because he was shot 9 times and is still alive. I haven’t been shot once so I must be 9 times luckier than 50 Cent.” - Joyner

One Year Anniversary in Toronto

Posted by tvor @ 9:58 am

It was 1 year ago today that I started working at IBM and moved into the apartment on Bamburgh Circle. Where did the time go?

Last night, Sean and I along with 8 other IBMers went out to the Korean BBQ. It was an awesome restaurant where they have barbecues built right into the table. Then they give you unlimited meat and pop. We had everything from beef to pork to salmon and chicken. I’m still full this morning! Also, I weighed myself at the gym this morning and I gained 3 pounds since yesterday!

Tonight I will be heading downtown to see Jerry Seinfeld’s opening act at Massey Hall for 7:00pm. Stay tuned for a post-show review.

Niagra Falls Weekend Summary

Posted by tvor @ 11:13 am

This past weekend was great since Mark, an old friend from New Brunswick, came up to visit. Plenty of good times were had such as crusing down the 401 with the top down in his Mustang, eating tons of pizza and ribs, and making a trip down to Niagra Falls. I’ll write more about the weekend here and provide more pictures tonight when I get home from work. In the meantime, here’s a picture of me at Niagra Falls.
