Moncton to Montreal to Toronto

Posted by tvor @ 10:11 pm

Today started out earlier than most with a wakeup call at 5:00am since I had to make it to the airport for an early flight. The trip started at 7:00am with a flight from Moncton to Montreal. I spent about an hour in the Dorval airport, which feels like it’s right out of the 70’s, before getting on another flight to Toronto. I arrived back in Toronto just before 10:00 this morning and opted to take the Air Limo from the airport instead of taking the 2 hour bus/subway ride.

The weekend was nice and relaxing. It’s always good to get out of the big city for a few days. We went to a wedding in Saint John on Saturday afternoon and took some pictures.

I won’t be making any other trips back east until September 3 when I finish work at IBM and make a bee-line back to Wolfville. The furthest east that I will be going in the next 2 months might be to Montreal to visit the Knocks. (We should plan something. Can you make it, Andrew?)

Back to the East…One More Time

Posted by tvor @ 10:10 am

I arrived in Moncton last night just after 10:00pm and I will be here for the weekend, leaving on Monday morning at 7:00am. This trip, I took WestJet which was a nice change from my usual choice of CanJet. The leather seats were very comfortable, plus the plane was only 3/4 full so I had the whole row to myself, therefore having plenty of leg room.

Plans for the weekend include golfing this afternoon, going to Saint John tomorrow for a friend’s wedding, and just relaxing.

MMVAs Review

Posted by tvor @ 12:32 am

I just got back from the MuchMusic Video Awards so here’s a little review of the evening.

Mike and I headed downtown at around 6:30 to be there for the red carpet ceremony at 7:30. Leading up to the 9:00 start, we couldn’t really see much since we were near the main stage and all of the performers were coming in on the other side of the Chum City building.

Finally, just before 9:00, I noticed Mix Master Mike, the Beastie Boys’ DJ up on stage pulling out some records. I was assuming that the Beastie Boys would be the final act since they were the big performers of the MMVAs that MuchMusic has been promoting. However, when the clock struck 9:00, the Beastie Boys took the stage and belted out their new single Ch-Check It Out followed by Intergalactic. These guys are closing in on their 40’s and still have tons of energy to jump around the stage. They left the main stage during part of Ch-Check It Out and ran to the awards stage which Mike and I were about 25 feet away. I have a couple of short videos from their performance and several pictures, although they are a bit fuzzy since the BBoys were moving around alot.

The only reason I went to the MMVAs was to see the Beastie Boys so by 9:10 I had my fill. During the next couple of hours they gave out some awards (the Beastie Boys won the Trail Blazer award for life-time achievement) and some other groups performed. The night ended with Evanescence. All in all, it was alot of fun.

Ch-Check out the pictures here.

Beastie Boys Coming to Town

Posted by tvor @ 9:52 am

While I was at the gym this morning, in between sets I was watching Breakfast Television and SportsCentre. On BT they were outside of the Chum City building (the same building where MuchMusic is located), and they showed the setup for the MuchMusic Video Awards which will be happening this Sunday. Out of the corner of my eye, while reading this on closed caption, they mentioned that the Beastie Boys will be performing! That’s enough incentive for me to head downtown on Sunday evening and check out the MMVAs.

A LabFestivus For the Rest of Us

Posted by tvor @ 9:57 am

Just a quick update on what’s been happening here in the T-dot.

This past Sunday, I hit the links with Mike and a couple other IBMers at the Unionville Executive Par 3 course. It was my first time golfing this summer and it went better than I had expected without losing any golf balls and hitting the green on about 6 of my tee shots.

It’s LabFest at work today which means 4 hours of fun while getting paid. The afternoon includes a free lunch, human foosball, basketball and volleyball tournament, climbing an inflatable mountain, a live band, and probably ice cream too!

I’ve been looking further into my schedule for the upcoming school year at Acadia and I’m trying to choose my electives. Some of my choices include micro-economics, intro to nutrition, matrix algebra with Stephenson, oceanography, and the second half of clap-for-credit. Anybody else have suggestions for fun/easy electives?

Dreaming about Cars

Posted by tvor @ 11:56 am

Lately I’ve been really looking forward to graduating, getting a full-time job, and then buying my first car. I’ve been thinking about it so much, that last night I had a dream where I bought an Acura RSX. It seemed to be a nice car at the time although by the end of the dream I had given it away to a friend for some reason which I can’t remember.

Now back to reality. If I ever bought a car, it would definetely have to be drivable in both the summer and winter. It would be nice to have a sports car but then storing it in the garage during the winter wouldn’t be very fun. I was looking through tons of car websites this past week and I still can’t get over the Subaru WRX Sport Wagon. It’s got everything that I need and want in a car. It’s fast with a 227hp turbo charged engine, has All Wheel Drive, and it’s quite roomy with seats for 5 plus ample storage since it’s a wagon. The only catch is the price tag at around $35,000CDN but I’ll get over that obstacle when/if I come to it.

Hit by the Flu

Posted by tvor @ 10:45 am

This is just a quick post to let everyone know that I’m still alive…well barely. I’ve spent the last 3 days working from home while I’ve been getting over a bad case of the flu. I’ve had all of the symptoms including cold shivers, high fever, pounding headaches, dizziness, and muscle aches. Last night I feel asleep wearing jeans, my Acadia sweatshirt ontop of another tshirt, while covered up by 3 blankets and still woke up in the middle of the night freezing. It was kinda messed up.

Thank goodness I am able to work from home so that I don’t lose any hours. By the way I’m feeling now, I should be back to normal by tomorrow.
