MMVAs Review
I just got back from the MuchMusic Video Awards so here’s a little review of the evening.
Mike and I headed downtown at around 6:30 to be there for the red carpet ceremony at 7:30. Leading up to the 9:00 start, we couldn’t really see much since we were near the main stage and all of the performers were coming in on the other side of the Chum City building.
Finally, just before 9:00, I noticed Mix Master Mike, the Beastie Boys’ DJ up on stage pulling out some records. I was assuming that the Beastie Boys would be the final act since they were the big performers of the MMVAs that MuchMusic has been promoting. However, when the clock struck 9:00, the Beastie Boys took the stage and belted out their new single Ch-Check It Out followed by Intergalactic. These guys are closing in on their 40’s and still have tons of energy to jump around the stage. They left the main stage during part of Ch-Check It Out and ran to the awards stage which Mike and I were about 25 feet away. I have a couple of short videos from their performance and several pictures, although they are a bit fuzzy since the BBoys were moving around alot.
The only reason I went to the MMVAs was to see the Beastie Boys so by 9:10 I had my fill. During the next couple of hours they gave out some awards (the Beastie Boys won the Trail Blazer award for life-time achievement) and some other groups performed. The night ended with Evanescence. All in all, it was alot of fun.
Wow, you got some good pictures there! You were really close to Avril. I bet the crowd was crazy.
Comment by Marsha — June 21, 2004 @ 6:26 pmDoes it mean you’re getting old when the “cool, hip bands” of your youth are pushing 40?
Comment by Andrew — June 21, 2004 @ 10:58 pmYeah, I guess it does…kinda depressing, eh? Atleast they don’t look like the Rolling Stones yet.
Comment by Trevor — June 22, 2004 @ 9:37 amWow, you WERE really close! Loved the pics.. especially of George.. and was Hilary Duff lip-syncing as bad in person as it was on tv???
Comment by Julie — June 23, 2004 @ 2:54 pmIn person it sounded like Hilary wasn’t lip-synching. There were a few times where it sounded like she was laughing during the song. But then again, there was alot of background noise.
