Carlos to the Rescue
Last night, my sister and I headed down to see a Jays game since she wanted to see them play while visiting Toronto. After having no luck finding SkyDeck seats from the scalpers, we bought them from the box office. We had some pretty good seats, 5 rows in the SkyDeck behind home plate. It was raining earlier in the day so I thought that the dome would have been closed, but it was open.
Anyways, the game went well. At the end of the 7th inning, it was getting a bit chilly with the wind coming in off the lake and I was without a jacket. So, we decided to leave and get some pizza over on Yonge St since it would have cost an arm and a leg to eat at the SkyDome with the over-priced food. ($3.25 for a bottle of water, $4.00 for a slice of pizza, $4.00 for a drumstick ice cream, etc.) The Jays were up 6-5 so I assumed they were going to win. However, outside of the SkyDome they were broadcasting the game from the radio and the announcer mentioned that Seattle had scored 3 more runs. So now it was 8-6 for the Mariners. “Well, atleast we didn’t stay to see the Blue Jays lose,” I thought. We had some pizza and then headed back home. After arriving at home we were greeted by Sean who brought some good/bad news. Good news: The Jays had won. Bad news: Cindy and I had missed Carlos Delgados’ 3-run home run in the bottom of the 9th with 2 out. It didn’t really surprise me that this had happened. It seems that whenever I go to a sporting event and decide to leave early (which is very rare), something miraculous usually happens after I leave. Back when I was about 13 I went to a minor league baseball game in Moncton. The home team was down by about 5 runs going into the 7th inning so we decided to leave. The next day I learned that they had rallied with a couple home runs in the last innning to win the game. I must have been bringing them bad luck.
Delgado is spanish for handsome if I remember right…..was he a good looking guy?
