Last Day in Toronto

Posted by tvor @ 9:19 am

It was just 16 months ago when my family and I left Riverview to move me to Toronto. Since then, many new experiences have been had and today the final chapter of living in Toronto (atleast for now), is coming to an end. The car is being packed and my dad and I will be leaving this afternoon and heading east.

GMail Account

Posted by tvor @ 3:06 pm

I have finally received an invitation for a GMail account!

I won’t post my new address here so that a spammer can get a hold of it. But if you want to send an email to my new address, use my first name followed by a period and then my last name and attach @gmail.com on the end. ;)

One Week Left in Toronto

Posted by tvor @ 12:23 am

As it is just past midnight on Monday night, I officially have only one week left here in Toronto before heading back to Wolfville!

This past evening was spent at the Canadian National Exhibition with my uncle. We went to the CNE last year so this is somewhat of an annual thing now. Who knows what will happen next year? Anyways, it was very similar to last year’s Exhibition with all of the same vendors and rides, but it was still alot of fun. I had purchased a ticket to the BB King concert at the Molson Amphitheatre for tonight but I forgot all about it until this afternoon, so Tim was able to sell it for me. I opted for the CNE instead of BB.

Don’t Trust Anyone

Posted by tvor @ 11:22 pm

This morning I received a call from Dan and Danielle who were in the area on vacation. We spent the afternoon downtown at a Jay’s game, dined on a Pizza Pizza rooftop patio, and walked down to the lakeshore. I hadn’t seen them since their wedding last August in Wolfville.

The Jay’s game was quite an experience as we purchased some $10 tickets from a scalper for the 200 level in the outfield. Upon trying to enter the SkyDome, we were informed that the tickets weren’t any good and that we should go and get our money back. While walking back to the scalper we thought that he would have either ran off with our money or wouldn’t give us a refund. To our surprise, he gave us our money back and we purchased some legitimate SkyDeck tickets from the box office. All in all, the game was great with the Jay’s winning 7-2, a naked streaker running across the field, and getting to see the dome close during the final innings of the game.

The scalper incident brings me to my “Don’t Trust Anyone” attitude while I’m here in Toronto. Of course I trust many people here in the big city, but I’ve been through several shady experiences which allows me to believe that many people are just out to make a quick buck. Maybe it’s just the big city life where I’m getting this from as I feel like I can trust more people when I’m in a smaller setting such as Wolfville. All I know is that I won’t be buying tickets from a scalper again.

Sushi, Sashimi, and Work Reports

Posted by tvor @ 8:27 pm

We just got back from a sushi and sashimi supper at a Japanese restaurant across the street. It was better than I thought since I never ate raw fish before. The texture took some getting used to but it was overall a good experience. I also opted for some Cantonese cuisine for lunch instead of stopping at McDonald’s for the McDeal Meal. In a few weeks my only choices will be Joe’s, Paddy’s, or pizza so I may as well make the most of the vast array of restaurants here while I can.

Speaking of Joe’s, just over 3 weeks until I head back to the east!

This weekend has been spent procrastinating about writing my final work report for my internship. If anybody is interested, my topic is JSTL.

Warning: Buses May Disappear When Wet

Posted by tvor @ 10:48 am

This morning I went to catch the 8:50 bus so that I could get into work a bit earlier than usual to prepare for a meeting at 10:00. To make a long story short, after standing in the rain for 30 minutes, without a jacket, it became apparent that the 8:50 bus had disappeared into oblivion. I ended up taking the 9:10 bus instead, which is my usual bus.

I should probably buy an umbrella sometime…but then again, I never think about buying an umbrella when it’s nice outside. The only time when I can see myself purchasing an umbrella is when it’s raining outside and I’m in a store that sells umbrellas and I have to walk home. Seeing that I rarely go shopping or even go shopping when it’s raining, I doubt whether I will ever own an umbrella. Oh well.
