After 18 Months of Waiting, It’s Time for Broomball

Posted by tvor @ 1:41 am

The broomball season started tonight with an exhibition game between the Acadia Christian Fellowship Arch Angels and the Chase Court Devils.

In the past years, the turnout for the Arch Angels wasn’t overly impressive as I remember often only having 5 or 6 players show up for the late games. However, tonight there were 19 Arch Angels who showed up to play.

The Devils took an early 2-0 lead and there was a long span where no goals were scored. Eventually, Mike Powell scored for us and cut the lead in half at 2-1.

With less than a minute left in the game, I was playing forward and we got an unexpected chance when Jeremy and I were on a breakaway. Jeremy was streaking down the right side with the ball and I was barrelling down the left side. As we approached the net, Jeremy passed the ball over for a one-timer which I somehow connected with and sent the ball under the goalie to tie the game 2-2.

It was funny that it was the veterans, Mike and myself, who had the goals for the Arch Angels since we hadn’t played broomball in about 18 months.

The season should be a good one and I’m sure we can contend and make it into the playoffs again. Stay tuned for future broomball updates.

Now, That’s a Nice Piece of Furniture

Posted by tvor @ 8:20 pm

A couple weeks ago, Wolfville Court was having a yard sale across the street from our apartment.

We bought something.

They put legs on it.

It arrived last Friday.

Foosball table

Enough said.

Back to Class

Posted by tvor @ 10:11 am

The first day back to class after a 16 month hiatus went well. It started out early at 8:30am with Intro to Economics which seems like it will be an interesting course. After lunch I headed to Distributed Object Oriented Programming, which is the most anticipated class of the year, and I was surprised to see only 5 students were in the course. Finally, after 3 years at Acadia, my class sizes are getting smaller! The evening was spent at the annual ACF BBQ and then at Astronomy class which only lasted for an hour and a half.

Today I’ve already attended an 8:30am Data Communications class and I have Artificial Intelligence this afternoon at 3:00.

This semester should be a busy one since I’m taking 5 courses, with 3 of them which will require alot of my time, plus I’m marking Translators and a grad course, and broomball season starts in just over a month! Here’s hoping that I can survive to see Christmas! :)

Back to Acadia

Posted by tvor @ 12:23 pm

Here is my first entry back at Acadia using the new Dell laptop. I’m sitting here in the library on the last day before classes start.

I moved into the apartment at Wolfville Court on Saturday afternoon and I’m finally all settled in. However, we don’t have a phone or internet access yet since there was some confusion about which building and apartment we were in. When I arrived, I thought that Sean and I would be in the Skyway building which is attached to the QuikMart but instead we are across the street in a nicer building with our own entrance.

I’ll probably be on campus for the remainder of the day to configure the laptop and then I have a shift at the Welcome Centre from 4pm-8pm. Then it’s early to rise tomorrow for the commencement of my 8:30am classes for every day for the next 8 months. I can’t wait!!

Back to the East for Good

Posted by tvor @ 4:13 pm

My dad and I arrived back into Riverview last night at 11:00pm after the 16 hour trek from Ontario. We left Toronto at 5:00pm on Tuesday evening, spent the night in Cornwall, and continued through Quebec and Northern New Brunswick yesterday. Now it’s time to sort through my things and pack up again since I’ll be moving to Wolfville on Saturday.

In other news, I have 6 GMail invites to give away. If you want one, let me know.
