After 18 Months of Waiting, It’s Time for Broomball

Posted by tvor @ 1:41 am

The broomball season started tonight with an exhibition game between the Acadia Christian Fellowship Arch Angels and the Chase Court Devils.

In the past years, the turnout for the Arch Angels wasn’t overly impressive as I remember often only having 5 or 6 players show up for the late games. However, tonight there were 19 Arch Angels who showed up to play.

The Devils took an early 2-0 lead and there was a long span where no goals were scored. Eventually, Mike Powell scored for us and cut the lead in half at 2-1.

With less than a minute left in the game, I was playing forward and we got an unexpected chance when Jeremy and I were on a breakaway. Jeremy was streaking down the right side with the ball and I was barrelling down the left side. As we approached the net, Jeremy passed the ball over for a one-timer which I somehow connected with and sent the ball under the goalie to tie the game 2-2.

It was funny that it was the veterans, Mike and myself, who had the goals for the Arch Angels since we hadn’t played broomball in about 18 months.

The season should be a good one and I’m sure we can contend and make it into the playoffs again. Stay tuned for future broomball updates.
