Retiring Archangels #15

Posted by tvor @ 1:30 am

It’s been well over a month since I last posted, so here’s a small update of what’s been going on.

All of the school work is finally starting to dwindle down. There are only going to be several more assignments and a paper to finish writing. The end is in sight and it’s looking good!

There still isn’t any news on the job-front but I will most likely be in Wolfville for the summer. I had an interview at the AITT on Tuesday and it seemed to go well. I also applied to work at the Jodrey School of Computer Science on an IBM funded project involving CVW which would require alot of java coding during the summer and re-writing the server for the application. There is also a very good chance I will be doing some website development with Andrew during the summer. It will involve writing a content management system, preferably in PHP, for a company here in Wolfville. So there are the three possible jobs I can have for the summer. I should hopefully know which ones I’ll be doing within a couple of weeks.

Tonight I probably played in the last game of my broomball career. My career started back in first year at Acadia, in the 2000-2001 season with the Acadia Christian Fellowship Archangels. During the first couple of seasons we didn’t win any games but we did end up scoring a few goals which seemed almost as good. This season saw alot of great players on the Archangels and our bench was packed every game with atleast 15 players. Also, for the second season in a row, the Angels made it into the playoffs, something that would have seemed impossible only four short years ago. They won their first playoff game this past Monday and tonight they had advanced into the second round. I decided to head down and join the team since I hadn’t played in a couple months due to the workload that I was under. The game was going great during the first 39 minutes and 35 seconds as it was scoreless. With overtime almost becoming a possibility, the other team put pressure on and scored with only 25 seconds left. Atleast we played a hard fought game and didn’t give up. The end of this broomball season will see several other players retire, including myself, but hopefully the Angels will stay strong and go further into the playoffs next year.

After the game, I went for a walk around Wolfville, stopping at Tim Horton’s for a hot chocolate and a donut. Then I leisurely made my way back up the hill. While walking in front of Chipman House, something caught my eye on the pavement. It was a watch. I picked it up and headed over to Safety and Security to see if they had a lost and found. The funny thing, is that this wasn’t the first time I had found something like that on the ground. Last November, at around midnight and walking home from broomball, I found a set of keys in front of Elliott Hall which I also took to Safety and Security. It seems like my vision somehow improves at night…and after playing broomball. Go figure.

So that’s the update. There is also more that’s been going on but I might save that for another post.
