The Concert Gameplan

Posted by tvor @ 8:30 pm

With 85,000 people about to converge on the Greater Moncton area for the Rolling Stones concert, I decided that I should have a gameplan in effect for getting to and from the concert. It seems that the fastest way to get to the concert and reducing the amount of walking is to take public transit. The bus stop is right outside our house here in Riverview which would take us directly to the concert site after a transfer in Moncton. The buses will then be running after the concert and bring us back to Riverview. Another option is that my dad could drive us to our church over in Moncton which would leave us with a 1km walk to the site. Which ever mode of transportation we choose, we’ll have to leave early in the morning on Saturday.

While looking at the Stones’ North America schedule for the tour, it seems that Moncton will be their largest venue with 85,000 people expected to attend. The next closest will be in New Jersey where there will be 70,000 fans. It seems quite ironic that Atlantic Canada, where all the big bands tend to skip during their tour, get the largest concert by the Stones.

This evening I stopped by the concert site at Magnetic Hill and took some pictures which are below. I was also planning on going to the driving range out near Magnetic Hill, but they’ve turned the range into a makeshift campground for the concert. That was somewhat disappointing but still funny seeing how they are trying to cram as many people into that area as possible.

End of Summer in Wolfville

Posted by tvor @ 8:11 pm

My summer job and time in Wolfville has come to an end. The summer was quite eventful to say the least as I did much more and travelled to many more places than I had previously planned.

I am now back home in Riverview for some rest and relaxation. It will then be time to search for permanent employment. I should be hearing back from IBM in Burnaby sometime next week about the result of my interview with them last Wednesday.

Here’s a group shot of the team I worked with during the summer:

Back Into the Swing of Things

Posted by tvor @ 8:27 pm

The summer is quickly coming to an end, as is my time in Wolfville. I will be packing it up and packing it in next Friday and moving back to Riverview. I’m really looking forward to just taking some time for myself and not having to think about work, studying, or going to classes. Then I’ll have to figure out what to do with my life and start the next chapter, where ever that may be.

Last week I went out to President’s Field for a softball game in the Acadia Mixed Summer League since the Alumni team was short of players. We ended up losing that game but still made it into the playoffs. On Tuesday we played our first game of the playoffs and lost horribly, thanks to alot of bad bounces. Last nite was the consolation game for 3rd place and we came out swinging and had great fielding. We ended up winning the game 7-6 and captured the bronze medal. I wish that I could be around here for next summer and play again, but as of right now, I could be anywhere by next summer. The only definite place I know I’ll be next summer is in the Calgary area where Sean and Julie have a small shindig in the plans. :)

Thrill on the Hill Ticket

Posted by tvor @ 1:51 pm

I did a bit of splurging on Ticketmaster this afternoon and purchased a ticket to the Thrill on the Hill concert in Moncton on September 3. The Rolling Stones will be headlining the concert along with The Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace, Maroon 5, and Les Trois Accord. The concert was sold-out after several days so I spent some time looking around eBay for tickets. After checking out Ticketmaster earlier today, it was apparent that there were still tickets available. Perhaps they added a few more tickets to the already expected crowd of 75,000 people who will be there.

Since I’ll be moving back to Moncton just before the concert, I thought it would be a nice treat for myself. Somewhat of a graduation present to myself for getting through these past 5 years of university and working at co-op and internship jobs. I have some other friends going to the concert so it should be a good time. Now I just have to wait another month for the concert day to arrive!
