Employed in Calgary!

Posted by tvor @ 7:49 pm

I received an invitation for a 2nd interview yesterday evening and went back to the company for a technical test and to have lunch with the team. After 3 hours, they offered me the job! Now it just depends on my references and I’ll be all set to make the move to Calgary! This will involve doing some apartment hunting next week and moving my things from the east.

Interview in Calgary

Posted by tvor @ 8:11 pm

Well, I’m back in Calgary again after a full week away. I just had an interview with a company downtown. It was quite possibly the best interview that I ever had, so now I’ll have to wait to hear back from them.

Planes, Delays, and Buses back to Vancouver

Posted by tvor @ 4:29 pm

I arrived back to Vancouver on Monday evening after returning from a wonderful 4 days in Calgary and Lacombe with Caitlin and her family.

Whenever I fly, I try to use CanJet or WestJet and avoid Air Canada at all costs since I don’t fully trust them with getting me to my destination on time. In this case, Air Canada was the cheapest so I decided to risk it. The trip back from Calgary soon became evident why I don’t like flying with Air Canada. There were technical problems with the aircraft which lead to a delay for getting more fuel. Overall, we ended up having a 45 minute delay in Calgary. It wasn’t too bad since I wasn’t on a tight schedule, but it still proves my point that Air Canada isn’t the most dependable airline in Canada.

Since arriving back to Vancouver I have heard from a job opportunity in Calgary which I applied for while I was there. I will most likely have an interview next week sometime. Until then, I’ll keep searching for a job.

As per usual, pictures from Calgary are in the gallery.

Checking in from Calgary

Posted by tvor @ 2:41 pm

I arrived into Calgary last nite during a rather turbulent flight from Vancouver. The pilot warned us ahead of time that it would be bumpy, and he sure was right. The lady next to me was laughing hysterically as we bounced our way towards Calgary.

I’m currently spending some time in the University of Calgary library while waiting for Caitlin to finish work. The plans for the rest of the weekend are to head north near Red Deer to visit her family and check out the sites of Calgary before heading back to Vancouver on Monday evening.

Childhood Candy and Kitsilano

Posted by tvor @ 2:48 pm

It was a nice day here yesterday (which meant that it wasn’t raining), so we went for an outing to Kitsilano and a walk around the waterfront. This involved a stop at The Candy Aisle where they had all sorts of candy from my childhood such as Ring Pops, Fun Dip, and Big League Chewing Gum. I left with a couple boxes of Gobstoppers and Popeye Candy Sticks.

Sickness and WHL Hockey

Posted by tvor @ 4:14 am

In keeping with my yearly tradition of getting sick around Halloween, I came down with a sore throat, dry cough, and several other ailments during the past couple days. I rarely ever get sick but I never miss coming down with something around late October/early November.

The majority of today was spent on the couch watching tv and relaxing. However, this evening the three of us went to a WHL game with the Vancouver Giants vs Calgary Hitmen at the Pacific Coliseum. We had great seats in the 2nd row and saw all of the goals on our end of the ice as the Giants whipped the Hitmen 5-0.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Posted by tvor @ 9:21 pm

We went to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show last nite at the Vogue theatre in downtown Vancouver where they were celebrating the 30th anniversary of the movie. It involved about a dozen actors acting out the movie in front of a big screen which was showing the actual movie. It was definetely a unique experience as almost all of the 1200 members of the audience were dressed up and during parts of the movie, the audience would participate by throwing toast or playing cards and holding newspapers over their heads.

The first time I watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show was about 3 years ago at Acadia with a group of friends. Even before watching it I knew that it would be a different movie from all the others, but it still seemed weird. However, watching it last nite with 1200 others actually made the movie make sense.

Several pictures are available in the gallery.
